  These were very good! I cut down the sugars by using Splenda brown sugar blend--so my diabetic husband could enjoy with us. Even without the whipped cream, they were spectacular. Going to make them for my office party in December. - 11/29/09

  I made them the other night. I swap out the phyllo pre made pie crust, which I rolled out and took a glass and cut circles and put into cupcake pans. I also added apple pie spice to the butter and sugar mixture . They came out great!!! Due to the swap with the crust had to bake for 30 mins. - 11/5/10

  It was ok. Some of the fillo shells stuck to the sheet because of the high liquid content. Make sure you just put the apples int he shells and not the liquid! - 9/29/10

  I made these with home made pastry, added apple pie spice & ground coriander (this spices doubles sweet tastes so you can use 1/2 the sugar). Also used dried apples from my own trees. They soaked up excess liquid & plumped up nicely. - 12/28/10

  Is phyllo dough tart shells something you can find in the grocery store? I don't think I've ever seen them there. - 11/11/09

  Yes, they are available in the freezer section of the store. Ask at your local supermarket; they should be able to help you find them.

  I made these today for a get together at my house. They were a hit! I just looked on the nutrition by ingredient page, though, and cinnamon was listed. Cinnamon isn't on the recipe page. I wonder if that would make them even better??? - 9/18/10

  These were absolutely delicious!!!

  I had WAY too much apple filling left over though, so next time I'll cut back the number of apples to 3 instead of 4. I would also recommend adding the brown sugar AFTER adding the apples because the sugar hardened when I added the apples.

  I modified this for New Year's day and added a little vanilla cognac while cooking, and a cup of pomagranite seeds: it was amazingly good! Did not need to have caramel or cream on top. - 1/1/11

  Filling must have been far too wet because the phyllo shells (store-bought) collapsed and came out very soggy. :( - 11/26/09

  These were good. I think next time I'll cut down on the apples. I had way too many. I'll also cook the apples a little longer to make them softer. Good dessert. - 12/1/10

  These are delicious. The first time I made them, I added some cinnamon and nutmeg for a more apple pie taste. The second time was the recipie as written and it had that caramel apple taste. Either way, they were so tasty. Thanks for sharing this one Chef Meg! - 2/25/11

  These are delish!! A big hit at home and at the office!! Very easy to make even if you can't find the premade tarts. I didn't even use the cooking spary after each sheet when you make them yourselves..you really don't need to! - 1/24/11

  I made these tonight with a few changes for my own taste and they were amazing! I didn't use the caramel sauce because i'm not a fan so i added cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and vanilla. I also cut the brown sugar and used I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Spray. Cut the calories to 63 for two shells. =) - 10/27/11

  I used parchment paper on the pan to avoid sticking.I also used "I can't believe it's not butter" spray-0 fat,0 calories, instead of butter. I chopped the apples, sprayed them, tossed with brown sugar and pie spices, put in shells and baked. This cut back on calories even more, & was still delish!!! - 4/3/11

  My family does not have dessert very often, but I wanted to do something special for my 5 and 3 year old. They found them to be a little to tart but the rest of us loved them. I did add cinnamon. It made it real apple pie like. This recipe was so easy to make that I know I will make again. Yummy!! - 1/7/11

  I made these tonight. I used a different type of apple (the ones off my own tree) and got too thick a caramel sauce but in spite of this they came out great. I'll make them again. - 9/14/10

  These were great! The apples were too tart for my kids but my husband and I loved them. I used a pie crust and 4 apples were way too many to fill the 24 cups. Very good recipe, thank you for sharing! - 1/26/11

  I made these this past Thanksgiving, and they were pretty good, especially with a bit of Cool Whip and light caramel drizzled on top. Got soggy quickly, though, with the lemon juice, and many stuck to the baking tray. - 2/2/11

  I am making these tonight... For everyone else in Europe: 375 degrees Fahrenheit are 190 degrees Celsius.

  EDIT: For some reason it's all to fluid and the tarts fall apart. I bought finished, ready to serve tartelettes and am just making the filling. Fast and nice as well

  A few recipe modifications from a personal trainer:
  Butter - use half and the other half grapeseed or canola oil
  Ice cream - frozen yogurt instead
  Brown Sugar - Honey instead
  ADD a good amount of Cinnamon to counteract your body's insulin response and keep blood sugars more stable :) - 2/2/11

  I used comstock apples in the can, cut in smaller pieces. Placed in tart, warmed. Dee lish. Or, add cranberries in can and combine with the apples in can to make a fruit mixture. - 12/28/10

  Question: Should I wait to make these the day I will be serving them or is it ok to make them one day in advance? If I make them in advance, how should I store them (in the fridge or at room temperature) and will I need to reheat them in the oven before serving them? - 11/24/10

  These were so delicous! Like another member I substituted splenda brown sugar for my diabetic mother's birthday treats! The candles fit in the tarts perfectly! Plus I did add cinanamon...YUM! - 11/15/10

So this is what we'll have for Thanksgiving and freeze half of them. 12 will last us a day or 2. And I use 1 Tbsp sugar, a bit of caramel. - 11/13/18
