Denver Broncos pre-draft depth chart (2024)

We are just hours away from the start of the 2024 NFL Draft and rumors are swirling about what our Denver Broncos are going to do. We all know the drama surrounding the quarterback position. Will they trade up, trade back, or take a quarterback in the first or later on day two? The Broncos have other holes on their roster as well and will try to address them with their other picks likely on day 3 of the draft.

Before we get to all that, we need to take a look at the current Broncos depth chart. From there, we can see the holes on the roster and start speculating on what prospects and positions the Broncos should add in the draft.

So with all that said, here is your Denver Broncos pre-draft depth chart.

Offense

Position Player Player Player Player
Position Player Player Player Player
WR Courtland Sutton Brandon Johnson Phillip Dorsett David Sills
WR Josh Reynolds Tim Patrick Jalen Virgil
WR Marvin Mims Jr. Lil Jordan Humphrey Michael Bandy
LT Garett Bolles Alex Palczewski Demontrey Jacobs
LG Ben Powers Quinn Bailey
C Luke Wattenberg Sam Mustipher
RG Quinn Meinerz Calvin Throckmorton Will Sherman
RT Mike McGlinchey Matt Peart
TE Adam Trautman Greg Dulcich Lucas Krull Nate Adkins
QB Jarrett Stidham Zach Wilson Ben DiNucci
RB Javonte Williams Samaje Perine Jaleel McLaughlin Tyler Badie
FB Michael Burton

Thoughts

  • Quarterback: With Zach Wilson recently added to the room, the Broncos now have three quarterbacks but still no real answer. The addition of Wilson gives them some insurance if they cannot draft a top quarterback, but he does not change their first-round plans. If the Broncos do draft a quarterback, I think Stidham and Wilson could be fighting for one roster spot, but we shall see. We will see another quarterback added to this room during the draft, but who and when is the big question.
  • Running Back: The Broncos are doing a bit of work on this group in the draft and look positioned to add to this room, which they should. Javonte Williams averaged a poor 3.6 yards per carry last season and is entering the final year of his deal. Veteran Samaje Perine was primarily used in the passing game and while Jaleel McLaughlin is electric, his size will limit his role on offense. I hope they add some playmaking ability and speed to this unit. Tennessee’s Jaylen Wright appears to be a name to watch.
  • Wide Receiver: Courtland Sutton is once again in the midst of trade rumors after he skipped out on voluntary workouts, so we shall see if he is on the roster after the draft. After that, they have decent depth on the roster with Marvin Mims Jr. and veteran Josh Reynolds but they could still add to this room in the draft. A name to keep an eye on here would be Rice’s Luke McCaffrey on day three.
  • Tight End: The team re-signed Adam Trautman but with uncertainty surrounding Greg Dulcich and Lucas Krull’s inexperience, the Broncos could add a receiving threat in the draft. A name to watch here is Kansas State’s Ben Sinnott.
  • Offensive Line: The glaring need is at center but they could stick with Wattenberg and 2023 seventh-round pick Alex Forsyth. Outside of that, they have added veteran depth throughout the offseason but we still could see some depth added in the later rounds. If the Broncos pass on a quarterback in the first round, they could address the tackle position and potentially move on from Bolles, but that is just speculation on my part.

Defense

Position Player Player Player Player
Position Player Player Player Player
LDE Zach Allen Matt Henningsen Jordan Jackson
NT D.J. Jones Rashard Lawrence
RDE Malcolm Roach Angelo Blackson Elijah Garcia
EDGE Baron Browning Nik Bonitto Durell Nchami
ILB Alex Singleton Jonas Griffith Drew Sanders
ILB Cody Barton Justin Strnad
EDGE Jonathon Cooper Ronnie Perkins Thomas Incoom Drew Sanders
CB Pat Surtain II Damarri Mathis Art Green
SS P.J. Locke Caden Sterns JL Skinner Keidron Smith
FS Brandon Jones Delarrin Turner-Yell Devon Key
CB Levi Wallace Riley Moss Tremon Smith
NB Ja'Quan McMillian Taylor Reese Tanner McCallister

Thoughts

Defensive Line: They added Malcolm Roach to likely start and help out as a run defender while also adding veteran Angelo Blackson and Rashard Lawrence as depth. It is improved but they could still add some depth as well as some interior pass-rush options.

Edge Rusher: It is a crowded unit that lacks an alpha pass rusher. Jonathon Cooper, Baron Browning, and Nik Bonitto all have flashed while Ronnie Perkins and Thomas Incoom provide some depth. 2023 third-round pick Drew Sanders is an X-Factor here as he transitions to edge potentially this offseason.

Linebacker: They lost Josey Jewell this offseason but added Cody Barton while re-signing Jonas Griffith and Justin Strnad to provide depth and contribute on special teams. Drew Sanders could end up being a factor here but they’re trying him at edge rusher while also keeping the door open for a return to off-the-ball linebacker. I could see them add a day three pick to this room and have them compete for a starting job.

Cornerback: Patrick Surtain II is the top corner in the league and will be the Broncos CB1 once again this year. The newly signed Levi Wallace will likely get the first shot and be the CB2 while Riley Moss and Damarri Mathis will compete for that job. Ja’Quan McMillian likely is a lock to be the slot corner after a breakout season last year. I still think they will add some depth likely on day 3 and with some UDFA’s.

Safety: The Broncos parted ways with the still-unsigned Justin Simmons before the start of free agency and then re-signed P.J. Locke and signed Brandon Jones. Those two figure to be your starters with Caden Sterns and JL Skinner serving as depth behind those two. I do not expect them to address this position in the draft outside of maybe a late day-three selection.
